DOCUMENTATION NEEDED TO BEGIN APPLICATION PROCESS

The necessary documentation required to receive assistance from the Portage Township Trustee Office varies, but you may be asked to provide these necessary documents to start the relief process.

Every case is different, so we encourage you to come speak to us at our office, located at 340 Columbia Street in downtown South Bend.

Eligibility Requirements

Residency

An applicant must physically live within the township, have previously lived here for assistance pertaining to the township, or intend to move here.

Income

The township has income guidelines for determining township assistance eligibility which includes an applicant’s countable income, receipts, expenditures, basic necessity payments, taxes, and more.

Employment

If you are able to work, we insist that you seek employment, maintain an updated employment file with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, or have necessary unemployment documentation.

Cooperation

During the interview process, you will be required to provide all the names of household members and any necessary information regarding finances, responsibilities, and more.

Application

Applicants must come to the township office during regular business hours to complete the Application for Township Assistance.
